Our Belizean dinner options are sure to make you crave Belizean foods long after you return home, and hopefully, you’ll come back and see us each year!

You might be wondering what you will be served for a Belizean dinner. Here are some of the more popular items that you’ll get a chance to taste after a day of adventures in the surrounding lush jungles.

Delicious Belizean Dinner Options

Make sure that when you come to Belize, you bring your appetite with you. You will not want to miss the flavorful cuisine with influences from the Caribbean, African, and Mayan people.

Rice and Beans

Rice and beans, along with a heaping portion of potato salad, is a common yet delectable part of Belizean dinner. You’ll find it served with beef, chicken, shrimp, pork, lobster, or even game meat. Yes, even the gibnut that the Queen herself once raved about may be stewed alongside this national dish, made with recado, a spice blend that gives it a deep red hue and plenty of garlic. The rice and beans are cooked in coconut milk and have such a unique flavor that even if you’ve had plenty of rice and beans elsewhere, you’ve never had them like this!

Ceviche

For Belizean dinner, ceviche is made with conch or shrimp, though you can also get them together for the best of both worlds. The seafood is ‘cooked’ in lime juice, then tossed with slices of cucumber, onions, and tomato. It is finished with cilantro, habanero peppers, and black pepper. It’s a refreshing dish to enjoy for Belizean dinner at our Belize eco lodge, one that is perfect after a hot day outdoors.

Cochinita Pibil

If you’d prefer something from the land, cochinita pibil is the perfect choice. It is a slow roasted pork dish that starts with an acidic marinade and plenty of local seasonings. This meat is then wrapped within a plantain leaf and placed into a large roasting pan which is set underground or into a clay oven for slow cooking, smoking for hours on end to reveal succulent meat.

Cochinita pibil is served with warm corn tortillas along with plenty of avocado an habanero pepper sauce. If you like tacos, this is one Belizean dinner dish you will not want to miss!

Tamales

Belizean tamales consist of cornmeal that is filled with pork, chicken, or beans with peas, onions, tomatoes, hab anero pepper sauce, and cilantro. They’re steamed over an open fire, making for a sensationally smoky and delicious meal.

Chicken Escabeche

If you want a true taste of Belizean dinner, be sure to sample the chicken escabeche. It’s a chicken soup that features oregano and thyme. The broth is light and clear and the addition of jalapenos bring a nice heat to it without being as scorching as the habaneros.

Belizean Wines

Make sure you enjoy the full dining experience while you’re in Belize by having cashew, craboo, blackberry, or other Belizean wines. These wines are all intensely enjoyable and best served chilled. Some people even enjoy them over ice, but however you enjoy them, be aware that they can be quite potent!

Belizean Desserts

Don’t forget to cap off your Belizean dinner with a local dessert. Soursop ice cream is made from the sweet yet tart fruit, a wonderful contrast of flavors for your palate. Cassava pudding is also highly adored with its sweetness that you can’t resist. You may also like craboo ice cream, made from the same fruit used to make many wines in Belize.
