Moho River

The Moho River offers a chance to see the indigenous parts of Toledo. Paddle along the river and observe crocodiles on the banks while the skies are filled with falcons, eagles, and hawks. From here, you’ll have access to remote Mayan villages off the beaten path.

Monkey River

On the opposite end of the Toledo District, Monkey River is another Belizean rainforest experience for adventurers. The flora and fauna surround you, teeming with howler monkeys, toucans, and macaws. There may even be a chance to spot a jaguar if you keep your eyes peeled.

Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve

In the Cayo District surrounding Jaguar Creek, you will be close to the best waterfalls and swimming areas. The Thousand Foot Falls is the highest waterfall in Central America and should not be missed. You’ll also see your fair share of wildlife here, including Belize’s national animal, the Baird’s tapir.

Sarstoon-Temash National Park

This national park is southwest of Barranco. While it is very remote and requires effort to get to, you will be rewarded with sights of rare birds and the white-faced capuchin monkey. It’s the prime place for the heartiest of adventurers to test their skills.

Mayflower Bocawina National Park

At Mayflower Bocawina National Park, you’ll have the chance to experience the Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve. There are well over 7,000 acres of unique tropical rainforest to explore. In the reserve, bird watching is a prime activity where you may see the scarlet tangler, spectacled owl, and northern shoveler, among other rare birds. This is a great escape that encompasses a bit of adventure, wildlife, and culture all in one.
